Fireside Lady.

Oops! I'm a little late posting this :( ...........But one of our Photos is in a Treasury! YAY! Here is the link (expires in a few hours, told you I was a little late)

Thanks to Melissa at Vivianne Designs for putting this Treasury together and including "Logs on the Beach at the Oregon Coast"

So, I was sitting in front of the gas fire the other night (yep, it is still pretty chilly here in the Evenings but really any excuse to sit in front of the gas fire is awesome!) when I started pondering about the Fireside Lady. I made her in a sculpture class quite a few years ago and she has spent every minute of her existence on the hearth, Lucky Girl but really she does need to keep warm :)

I love working with clay, it is almost a spiritual connection working the Earth, molding by hand, a very similar experience to planting Flowers in the ground. :)

I love this shot.

The wonderful thing about this particular class was that we only got 5 mins. to work every angle. So, starting at the head, looking straight on, 5 mins and rotating from there. It is an awesome challenge, you have to stay very focused on the very specific part you are working on at the time and not the whole person but also keeping in mind that you are working to complete the whole and not just the individual part.

Of course, you are not going to create a Rodin in that time but I was very happy with the result and it made me realize a few misguided assumptions I had, and I think we all have, about the Human body and where things lie in relationship to each other.
I really miss working with clay and so, once I have finished my drawing classes, I am going to treat myself to some clay sculpting classes too.

If you could what kind of classes would you take?

Happy Thursday!

Happy Painting/Creating! :) T.

I love sitting by a good fire :)

If I could take any class I would probably take a pottery class, I am obsessed with handmade mugs and if I could make them myself I could make as many as I want! lol! I would also take metalsmithing classes as well :)

Have a great day!

Oh, I missed your treasury:( But I love your little lady. Although she needs a nice little bearskin rug. She looks nice and warm by your fire, but she looks a little uncomfortable on the tile.

I love working with clay - and yet another good thing about having young kiddos is that i actually get to play with sculpting medium (OK, playdough) quite a bit now. Hey, it doesn't have to be 'fine' to be art...right?

Wonderful accomplishment T, can't believe you did so much in such a minute amount of time. I particularly love the rustic look of the medium, looks like it was carved from wood. She is most beautiful and looks very much at home in front of the hearth...but I agree with TeddyStartedIt, she might like a soft faux animal skin rug to recline upon. :)
Congratulations on being in a treasury, took a peek at it and it was a lovely treasury to have been in.
BTW do you offer any of your http://www.PhotosByChipperfield.etsy.com photo prints in a smaller format, like 5" x 7" or a 4" x 6" ? There is at least one print I have my eye on but at 8" x 10" once it is matted and framed it would be too big for the area that I had in mind.

Oops, didn't mean to repeat myself. But guess a treasury is a neat thing to be featured in, so it could bear repeating. =D

great sculpture! I love all of those photos. If I could I would take a lot of classes. I am enjoying my online class right now, but I would also love to do more art classes.

That's really wonderful, I love that piece. So natural and down to earth, warming herself by the fire.

Wow, I really love this sculpture. The shape of the figure's backside is quite beautiful.

I once got to go to the Rodin museum in Philadelphia. Wow....wow.

Congrats on the treasury! Good Grief you are an amazingly talented lady! I would just love to take a class and learn how to throw on the wheel :)

Whoa! When I saw this post in my reader, she almost looked real. What an interesting piece--how much does the fireside lady weigh? Just reading this post got me thinking about some classes I want to take. I've been thinking about maybe a pmc class. I'd also love to take more photography courses and a photoshop class since I really don't know how to use it. Thanks for sharing this piece!

I love this piece and I thought she was carved from wood at first! Five minutes isn't a lot of time for each section but you did good!

I would love to take a photography class and more quilting classes!
